Dusty is a crop duster who wants to win a race around the world. Eventually he is trained by an ex-hero and makes quite a few friends along the way.

I expected this movie to be way better. I actually liked the commercials more than the movie itself. There is some good humor and great 3-D moments, but "Planes" is too much like the "Cars" movies, which made it very predictable. Unlike "Cars," it did not have any surprises.
This movie left out parts that could have been quite interesting, like when Dusty escapes the train or why he even wanted to race in the first place.
I think a young audience around four years old would like this movie, but "Planes" made me want Disney to try something more like the magical adventures "Hercules" or "Aladdin" instead of following the same old racing movie idea.
...and now you've seen the entire movie. At least, 3/4 of it!
Do you think Disney movies are getting too similar? What are your favorite kind of Disney movies?
Sorry to hear about "Planes," especially considering how much you enjoyed the "Cars" movies. I agree that Disney movies are sometimes redundant. They definitely need to strive for more creative plots.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Disney movies are probably the ones that came out when I was about your age - "Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast", "Lion King", and "Pocahontas". Chris's favorite is "The Fox and the Hound". We both liked the newest Disney Princess movie though - "Brave". The plot and princess were not typical, which made it a lot more fun and interesting.
Disney movies have always been this way! Star Wars is even similar to this story line: a young hero (Luke Skywalker) meets an old hero who trains him (Old Ben) and with the help of many new friends Luke sets out to win the day.
ReplyDeleteI think the trick is to put enough of a twist on the movie that it doesn't seem like the same story told over and over. I agree with you - Planes is too close to Cars. What's next: Trains? Boats? Motorcycles?
